8 Meaningful Places to Visit During Your Umrah Journey

In Makkah
Jabal al-Nour and the Cave of Hira
Jabal al-Nour ("Mountain of Light") is where the Cave of Hira sits — the site of the first revelation to Prophet Muhammad رسول الله. Many pilgrims choose to view the mountain from below rather than make the climb, which is steep and can take over an hour each way.
Jabal Thawr and the Cave of Thawr
Located south of Makkah, this is where the Prophet and Abu Bakr (RA) took shelter during the migration to Madinah. Like Jabal al-Nour, it's usually viewed from the base rather than climbed.
The Plains of Arafat and Muzdalifah
While central to Hajj, many Umrah pilgrims also visit these sites on a Ziyarat tour to appreciate their significance in Islamic history.
In Madinah
Masjid Quba
The first mosque built in Islam, and one of the few mosques the Prophet specifically encouraged Muslims to pray in.
Mount Uhud
The site of the Battle of Uhud, with the graves of the martyrs — including the Prophet's uncle Hamza (RA) — nearby.
Masjid Qiblatain
The "Mosque of the Two Qiblas," where the direction of prayer was changed from Jerusalem to Makkah during a single prayer.
The Seven Mosques
A cluster of small historic mosques near the site of the Battle of the Trench (Khandaq).
